SAL in Latin becomes SALSA for a salty sauce. That word travels to Spain and then the Mexico and the Americas where it becomes famous for dipping chips. It also becomes SALAMI for salted meat. In French the L becomes a U, which becomes SAUSAGE for salted meat in English.
