The hijacked M/T EUREKA (IMO 1022823) from Yemeni waters, carrying Indian and Egyptian crew members, switched its AIS signal back on today after being seized on 2 May 2026. The vessel is currently located off the coast near Bayla in Somalia’s Puntland region, an area historically associated with Somali pirate activity during the 2008-2012 piracy peak. The Bayla coastline is largely inhabited by Majerteen and Leelkase Darod clan communities. The vessel was reportedly being monitored by a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force warship.
