#Commentary | Two regional diplomatic sources told Basha Report that China is preparing to present a roadmap aimed at ending the war. The sources said Beijing has already briefed both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on the proposal.
The developments come as U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in China on Wednesday for high-stakes talks with President Xi Jinping. Trump said he does not expect to rely on Beijing’s help to end the conflict with Iran or reduce Tehran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The sources also said the timing coincides with new maritime intelligence activity in the Gulf. Third-party maritime intelligence firm Windward confirmed the outbound crossing of the third Chinese supertanker Yuan Hua Hu through the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the vessel going dark, satellite imagery reportedly captured the 330-meter VLCC roughly 40 minutes later. Two additional outbound transits were also detected, including the vehicle carrier Xiang Jiang Kou, which was reportedly broadcasting “Chinese Crew,” and the sanctioned LPG tanker Tania Star.
In April, two very large Chinese crude carriers were reportedly allowed to transit the Strait of Hormuz under Iran’s toll system, which allegedly requires payments of up to $2 million per supertanker. One of those vessels was the Yuan Hua Hu, the same tanker now reported moving through the strait again. The movement follows an earlier April 2026 incident in which another Chinese-linked vessel, Rich Starry, reportedly challenged a U.S. naval blockade.
Iran on Tuesday also announced its readiness to support President Xi Jinping’s “four-point plan” for Gulf security and regional development. Iran’s ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, said Tehran backed the Chinese initiative aimed at securing long-term stability and shared economic growth in the Persian Gulf region.
The first point of the proposal calls for peaceful coexistence through what China described as a “common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable” security framework for West Asia and the Gulf region. The second stresses respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the protection of regional personnel, institutions, and infrastructure. The third emphasizes adherence to international law and warns against the international system descending into what China called the “law of the jungle.” The fourth point promotes balancing security and development through regional cooperation focused on economic growth and long-term stability.
U.S. government sources also told Basha Report that President Trump currently has no interest in accepting any Chinese-backed deal. According to the sources, Washington’s focus for now remains on enforcing the naval blockade as part of its maximum pressure campaign against Iran.
