In a horrific and senseless murder, nearly 400 ostriches were executed for no good reason by Canadian government-hired marksman. They were not sick. They were offered asylum in the US — by Dr. Oz, no less! They posed no danger to people or other birds — until the were gunned down and their dead bodies left to rot in the sun and be eaten by wild vultures.
This act was nothing more than a cruel and tyrannical government showing what it could do to anyone and anything.

What Happened?
Canadian government executed nearly 400 ostriches on a farm in British Columbia, citing avian influenza (likely untrue as avian flu was long gone in this flock).
Despite offers from US officials and Dr. Oz to relocate them, the birds were gunned down by professional marksmen at night. Carcasses were left exposed to rot in the sun for vultures to eat and then fly away.
These actions are similar to past draconian reactions during the Canadian truckers' rally and the New York State killing of Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon, who were beloved well-cared-for rescue pets.
Background on Ratites Ratites, including ostriches and emus, are flightless birds lacking a sternal keel, related to dinosaurs. Of course, we know USDA has been killing or sponsoring the demise of chickens — especially egg-laying hens — on a massive scale. All for an “avian flu” that’s mostly preventable, easily misdiagnosed, and can result in a more flu-resistant flock among the survivors.
The US Government offers financial incentives to corporate entities to kill their hens. Remember the not-so-long-ago egg scarcity and high prices? You can thank senseless USDA policies to kill all birds if even one or a few were PCR-test diagnosed with “avian flu.”

Let diseases run course in flocks, use biosecurity, breed survivors.
Joel Salatin bred long-lived flu-resistant chickens and has written books about poultry farming.
Wild birds build immunity; new flu strains evolve.
Heritage breeds including Fayoumi, Nicobari, and indigenous chickens resist avian flu.
Cross breed resistant birds into commercial lines.
Buy from auctions, trustworthy Facebook groups (ask breeders about resistance in their flocks); use resistant roosters.

Final Thoughts
This is just the most heartless, stomach turning turn of events. The Canadian Government should meet the same fate as these blameless birds — except the Canadian Government is NOT blameless. No, not being shot, but having their lifeblood cut off:
All trade with Canada must stop.
Americans must boycott the country.
These farmers must receive restitution for their flock, pain, and suffering along with an abject apology (fat chance of this happening).

If you have sick animals, particularly birds, the message is do not call your local veterinarian, do not seek medical treatment, as the vet will be required to report Avian influenza cases to the state governments. In the United States, that would be to the state health authorities. That would mean almost certain death for the entire flock.
For the small farmer or owner of a backyard flock, there is no financial compensation when this happens.
The same advice holds true for sick humans and pets. Stay away from doctors and vets. Use natural methods or a truly trustworthy professional who has NO government or insurance ties and will do everything off the record. We must stop this before governments destroy every living thing in their paths. Just heartsick over this!
