Sophisticated AI voice cloning scams can replicate voices from brief social media clips in 10-30 seconds, enabling fraud such as impersonating family in emergencies.
Examples:
Florida woman's cloned daughter voice claimed a car crash and demanded $15,000 bail.
New York scammers targeted grandparents with cloned grandchild voices.
UK company lost $243,000 to a fake CEO voice.
Political scams, such as Sharyl Attkisson being targeted with AI impersonations of President Trump and Susie Wiles to solicit $21,500 for a fake TikTok board position.
Scams are scalable and target vulnerabilities in voice authentication. Protection advice includes:
Using code words.
Verifying via separate channels.
Limiting public voice exposure.
Being skeptical of urgent money requests.
Making social media private.
Avoiding sharing personal info online.
Educating vulnerable family members.

Ditch phone apps, smart phones, free email and apps, and social media. All are surveillance devices that steal your data and put you at risk. Know that free stuff is never free and YOU are the product.
Talk with people in person or call them back on your dumb flip phone.
Never post anything that you wouldn’t want in the hands of a scammer, even if you think you’re being careful enough.
Do not fall for sob stories even if you think they’re authentic. Verify EVERYTHING in person or by flip phone call.

Trust your gut. If your spidey senses and BS antenna activate, trust that they likely are right.
Never act out of fear or panic. That’s how they get you lured into being scammed.
