Idaho Legislature: Ask Legislators to VOTE NO on S1072 - Too great for hate license plates (posted 02/11/25)

_____________

1072 establishes a new "Too Great for Hate" specialty license plate in Idaho. Of course, Idaho is too great for hate. Everywhere is too great for hate. People should be judged by the content of their character and nothing else. But this slogan is sometimes used by the left to divide people rather than bring them together.

Putting this message on Idaho’s license plates is an expanded and unnecessary “we are inclusive” political message. It supports a nonprofit Wassmuth Center for Human Rights through Idaho Commission on Human Rights (a government department that supports affirmative actions and other DEI policies that should be removed from state government, as it is from the federal government).

This specialty plate sends a message that Idaho hates people, which is not true. There’s no reason to imply that it is. It also sets up more bureaucracy to manage a new human rights commission program fund; we do not need more bureaucracy.

Provisions:

  • Establishes a new "Too Great for Hate" specialty license plate in Idaho.

  • Initial fee for plate is $35 with a subsequent annual renewal fee of $25.

  • Supports the Idaho Commission on Human Rights, with $22 from the initial fee and $12 from each renewal fee being transferred to a new human rights commission program fund.

  • Funds will be used for anti-discrimination efforts, including educational programming and public awareness campaigns about Idaho's anti-discrimination laws.

  • Design must be approved by both the Idaho Commission on Human Rights and the Idaho Transportation Department, and will follow standard specialty license plate regulations.

  • Drivers can transfer these special plates to another vehicle upon payment of required transfer fees.
