Approximately 32% of postsecondary students are immigrants or children of immigrants. At a time when Latinos were the only group not experiencing a demographic cliff, this should concern us all. I worked with students who were documented but were terrified to reveal information about their parents. This is the time for higher education leaders to rethink FAFSA, rethink how we identify our students for financial aid purposes, and stop requiring social security numbers to determine eligibility for funding.
