This past week, a tank of caustic material failed at a packaging company in Longview, WA. It killed 11 people and contaminated the Columbia river.
Here’s a good video about the event:
When society collapses, which it must and will given how far into ecological overshoot we are and with no effort on the part of humanity to do anything about it and instead, continue business-as-usual, these kinds of industrial accidents will become commonplace as things fall apart. The crumbling of the infrastructure we leave behind will continue for millennia, contaminating and poisoning the natural world as it happens. Rivers, wetlands, lakes all around the world will all be poisoned.
It breaks my heart to think about what our human “legacy”: one of total environmental destruction.
