A REVIEW IN WHICH THE READER ENJOYS THE NEW FORMAT

I started Horsefly by Aron Beauregard last night and finished this morning. What can I say? I have read a lot of Aron’s work and although Through the Eyes of Desperation and Son of Slob are still my top favorites, Horsefly is fit snuggly in 3rd place. This reminded me of the vibe of Judith Sonnett’s Splattersaurus although it was more grounded in an imaginable and plausible enemy. We can’t know what it would be like to encounter a blood thirsty dinosaur but at least most of us can relate to the sting from a bug.

If you have never been at the pool and plagued by horseflies or even stung by a bee at a picnic than you’re lucky. I spent a lot of time at my cousins when I was a kid and when we went swimming in their pool we would laugh our heads off screaming at each other to duck under the water to get away from the horseflies. In the case of this book, I could relate to that time at my cousins and the fear I would have at seeing a massive horny and rage filled insect coming at me.

The format of this book is another thing I want to touch on. This is the first book I have ever read where there are QR codes to external clips. The clips, bottom line, were an amazing addition to this story.

All in all I would give this 4.5 ⭐️ it lost a heart for including a pregnant lady… can’t explain it The Slob wrecked me for pregnant characters!
