Received this acknowledgment letter from Dr. Albert Kwokwo Barume, UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, following my in-person submission to him in NYC at the UNPFII last week.
I sincerely pray that this submission moves the UN to act. In Fort Chipewyan, a small Indigenous community downstream from the Alberta oilsands, cancer rates run 25% above the provincial average — while the governments bound by treaty to stand beside them have chosen silence.
