On March 10th, Pete Hegseth invoked Psalm 144, quoting "Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle," as a way of framing the war in Iran.
This is not only a clear violation of the separation of church and state, it is using the Bible to divinely sanction the violence of the state. The history of political rules using scripture this way is long, dark, and bloody. It is “holy war” rhetoric.
Everyone should oppose this. Especially in light of all those school children that were killed.
Woe to those who take the name of God upon their lips while their bombs fall on children.
"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to God: arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community." -Proverbs 6:16-19
Lord, have mercy. Christ have mercy.
