Make money doing the work you believe in
They love Black women's service until Black women ask what the service costs.
Nelson Mandela International Day asks people to honor 67 years of service with 67 minutes of action.
A beautiful idea, if service is not being used as a costume over exploitation. Three days before Black Women's Equal Pay Day, Equal Pay Today reported that Black women earn 65 cents for every dollar earned by non-Hispanic white men for full-time, year-round work, and 63 cents when all earners are counted.
So let us ask the impolite question:
When Black women serve families, offices, campaigns, churches, schools, hospitals, and entire movements, who serves them back? A world that praises service but refuses fair pay is not honoring sacrifice. It is shopping for a discount.
