The 25th Amendment is supposed to be the constitutional fire alarm. The one you break only when the President is incapacitated, unable, or flat‑out unwilling to do the job. It covers everything from severe illness to total mental or physical breakdown. Section 4 is the big one: the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet can declare the President unfit and temporarily transfer power.
It’s meant for moments when the country needs an adult in the room immediately.
With the recent flurry of confusion, contradictions, and late‑night chaos, it’s not surprising folks are asking whether this is precisely what the 25th Amendment was built for.
I’m not diagnosing… just observing that “total incapacitation” wasn’t meant to be a metaphor. From where I’m sitting, he’s edging pretty close to that threshold.
