In November 1933, at the height of Holodomor, the US established diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union, under Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR). Today Trump administration is following a similar path. Many people compare Trump to Hitler as an insult. But such comparison is inaccurate. Trump is the modern-day Roosevelt - and this is not a compliment. If anything, for any deep thinker knowledgeable of history this is even a worse insult.

Back then, FDR and his officials knew about the ongoing Holodomor. But still they chose to get friendly with the Soviet Union. There were heavy protests within the administration and from the general public. But the problem was that US administration at the time was infested with Stalinists and outright Soviet supporters. And they eventually won the battle - they swayed the US towards closer alignment with the USSR.

Also, just like today, Russians were denying their crimes and gaslighting those who were shedding light on their crimes. Soviet government was calling Holodomor a fake. And it was promoting its narratives through its stooges in the West, like the journalist Walter Duranty. He was writing articles for the New York Times denying the Holodomor. Also, through their infiltration and manipulation, Russians were smearing those journalists who were sharing the truth about Holodomor. The most famous example is the journalist Gareth Jones. Russian propaganda tried heavily to discredit him. And eventually Russians killed him. While investigating in then Japanese-controlled Inner Mongolia, he was kidnapped and killed by the NKVD.

The same dynamic is playing out today. The Trump administration is infested with outright Russia-supporters, like J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and others. And again, in spite of the ongoing Russian crimes in Ukraine, they try to sway the US into friendship, even alliance, with Russia. And again, just like 100 years ago, Russians are poisoning Western minds, lying, manipulating, calling their crimes fake and gaslighting supporters of Ukraine. These are innate Russian behavioral patterns. They never change. Be it under Ivan IV The Terrible, under Stalin, under Putin or under anyone else. Russians remain the same. Savage and brutal, and at the same time shameless and mendacious.

This time must be different. The US administration must be prevented from rapproachment with Russia. It must be ensured that at the very least the US stays out of the way. It doesn't need to support Ukraine; but it must be ensured that it doesn't start supporting Russia. Because really, if it were up to Trump, Vance and Witkoff, they would rather gladly provide Tomahawks to Russia than to Ukraine. They would gladly actively enable Russia to destroy Ukraine and the rest of Europe. Just like Roosevelt enabled the Soviet Union.

The issue with America has always been the following... It is a highly talented, highly energetic population, brimming with passionarity. It has long been the resevoir of high human capital. But the problem is that it is very malleable. It is easily manipulatable and led astray by bad actors. A good manipulator can mold America in its own image and make it do its bidding. And so it has been in the last 100 years. America was doing Russia's bidding. Russians managed to poison American minds and mold American foreign policy in ways that benefit Russia.

At the levels of European diplomacy and more importantly within the American public this obscene US-Russia alliance must be prevented. Dear Americans who support Ukraine (and I know you are the overwhelming majority): contact your senators, even contact the president himself. Put pressure on the US administration. Make it clear that you won't tolerate such morally obscene foreign policy by the adminsitration. Make it clear that if the Trump adminstration continues on its pro-Russian course, and if Republican senators don't vehemently protest, you will vote for the Democratic candidate in the next midterm elections. Make it clear that you will vote for a Democratic candidate in the next presidential election.

Trump is very vulnerable. He is unpopular. And this is the main feature that sets him apart from FDR at the time. And friends of Ukraine must capitalize on this. A new Russo-American alliance must not be allowed to pass. Russia must not be allowed to be bailed out by the US yet another time.
