This cartoon is funny but it’s actually pointing to, as memes often do, to a truth we haven’t processed yet. Recently, I was talking to a friend at one of the “big tech” brands. He’s gone from 2 human direct reports to 2 humans and 8 agents. The agents work 24hr/day. So maybe it’s more like 2 + 16. This is a brilliant human who is near mental collapse and whose job is now “validator.” I am pro-AI, I believe it will change us, ultimately, in positive ways. But perhaps in the meantime, the thing it’s teaching us most quickly is how we value ourselves. This company was (is?) known for great innovation, do we think that that’s what we’re extracting here? My gut instinct says: probably not.
