Refreshed Macs and Studio Displays today! The MacBook Air graduates from a M3 chip to a M4 chip. Very nice. The price did go up by $100 (likely due to global RAM shortages) but you now do get a 512GB SSD instead of the old 256GB SSD. So it shakes out in the benefit for the consumer at the end of the line in my opinion.

The MacBook Pros gain M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Also very nice. But they also have a similar SSD and price bump. While most models start at $100 more than yesterday, you get a 1TB SSD. Which is crazy. And on models with the M5 Pro, you get more RAM too. 24GB up from 16GB. Again, more expensive but working out in the consumer benefit ultimately.

Finally, 2 new Studio Displays!? This was unexpected. The new 2nd generation Studio Display is by and large an incremental improvement over the original. It has an improved camera and features Thunderbolt 5. Those kinds of things. The real story is Studio Display XDR. This ‘replaces’ the infamous Pro Display XDR and is similar to the regular Studio Display, but has a few advantages. It has a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is made of mini-LEDs. It’s much brighter, allowing for HDR support. And it comes with he tilt and height adjustable stand by default. The real problem is the price- $3300. It is cheaper than the Pro Display was, but I still don’t know who will buy it.
