One of the most inspiring restoration stories is that of Brendon Grimshaw, a British newspaper editor who bought the tiny island of Moyenne in the Seychelles in 1962. Rather than developing it for profit, he spent decades restoring its ecosystem alongside his friend René Antoine Lafortune.

Together they planted thousands of trees, created nature trails, and helped transform the once-abandoned island into a thriving sanctuary for birds, giant tortoises, and native plant life.

Grimshaw reportedly rejected multimillion-dollar offers from developers, choosing conservation over personal wealth.

Before his death in 2012, he helped secure protection for the island, which is now a protected national park

Today, Moyenne Island stands as a remarkable example of how long-term dedication by a small number of people can restore damaged ecosystems and protect biodiversity for future generations.
