Associating conflict theory with Marxism, I tended to think of myself as a mistake theorist, too — yet this wasn’t thought through. It was the Conspicuous Cognition Substack by Dan Williams that converted me into a conflict theorist last year. A lot of what goes wrong in public discourse is not innocent epistemic mistakes but people poisoning the epistemic commons with their self-serving propaganda. I especially like his concept of a “marketplace of rationalisations”.
