Political parties can now spend unlimited amounts in direct coordination with their own candidates.
That matters because James Talarico's biggest advantage has been his fundraising. Ken Paxton's biggest advantage may now be the Republican Party's massive war chest.
This doesn't guarantee Paxton wins.
It does mean Talarico's cash edge may matter a lot less than it did a week ago.
The battle just shifted from candidate money to party money.
