The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was not unvetted. He worked directly with U.S. intelligence in Afghanistan, carried a CIA badge, and underwent extensive background checks. He later applied for asylum in Dec 2024 and was approved in April 2025 after vetting conducted under the Trump administration.

That’s more scrutiny than most people entering the U.S.

Yet this tragedy is being exploited to attack immigrants, fuel Islamophobia, and justify mass crackdowns. Even Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin debunked the claim.

This isn’t about safety. It’s about fear politics.
