Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced the apprehension of ten individuals alleged to be members and associates of the Tren de Aragua (TDA) gang, a transnational criminal organization implicated in the trafficking of firearms into New York City.
"This arrest and subsequent indictment are the result of more than a year of thorough investigation. We convened a special grand jury to present our findings and secure the indictment," stated Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.
The investigation dismantled a gun-running operation that employed product videos and party music as part of its strategy. On Wednesday, the agencies revealed a 120-count indictment against the ten alleged members of the TDA.
"This group exhibited a remarkable degree of openness in their transactions. In one notable instance, a defendant was observed transporting an AR-15 rifle concealed within a black garbage bag for sale in the Bronx. This transaction transpired in the afternoon, in front of a residential building. Between October 30 and December 10, five such transactions occurred in proximity to the Target parking lot," Katz remarked.
