I got derailed by a knee… replacement.
For those of you who know us, Hubby recently went in for his second knee replacement surgery. The first one went perfectly, so imagine my shock and horror when I was informed there was an issue and he could potentially lose his leg. Let me repeat for you. He. Could. Have. Lost. His. Leg.
I was not prepared for that. And I was sitting alone in a hotel room for what was the worst ten hours of my life waiting for news as Hubby underwent his second surgery—this one an emergency vascular repair surgery. Now before you go haring off about suing the surgeon, etc., etc., blah, blah, you need to remember a few things—this is Australia and our health system is excellent, And the people are genuinely wonderful. Hubby’s surgeon was no exception and I would recommend him a hundred, a thousand times over.
This was a freak situation because the human body is complicated and it was no one’s fault. The surgeon did everything right. Called in a vascular surgeon. Called in a cardiac surgeon. Hubby had the best care, and he’s recovering nicely after two bouts in Intensive Care. Because Hubby is a special snowflake like that and needed not one, but three surgeons. Today, nine days post-surgery, he’s even able to walk around unaided for short periods though he tires quickly. But yay! Not a pirate!
There’s a book in there for all the transpired, including my first ever Uber Eats order at 11pm when I felt I needed comfort food in the form of a Hungry Jacks Whopper with cheese.
I’m back to work now and my to-do list and authors’ release schedules need rejigging. Fortunately, I have wonderful authors, so Day One back to work was only an audiobook release and a cover reveal. Then we’re once again in the thick of it with a world-building strategy session, GEO assessments for some of my authors’ online presence, prep for a German release, and an interview for a white paper on how to launch an author brand strategically. But I’m also having the weekend off after team writing sprints.
And that’s the rather lengthy update of where I’ve disappeared to for the last ten days.
Off to make Hubby a ham and cheese toastie cos that’s his favorite post-anything recovery food. We use the good ham.
