Harriet Tubman did not have a biological daughter, but she did adopt a girl named Gertie Davis later in her life.

Gertie Davis was the adopted daughter of Harriet Tubman, one of the most courageous and celebrated figures in American history. After a lifetime of freeing enslaved people through the Underground Railroad and serving as a nurse and spy during the Civil War, Harriet settled in Auburn, New York, where she lived a quieter life. In the late 1870s, she and her second husband, Nelson Davis, adopted Gertie. Not much is widely known about Gertie’s life, as she stayed mostly out of the public eye, but her adoption speaks to Harriet's deep compassion and commitment to caring for others—especially children. Even after risking her life for freedom, Tubman’s work didn’t stop; through Gertie, she continued to build the kind of nurturing and liberated future she had long fought for.
