Devon Hase calls it "the trance of nice," a Buddhist superego that tells practitioners they should never be angry, never speak their real mind, always project spiritual serenity regardless of what they actually feel. The problem is niceness isn't kindness, and suppressing authentic emotion under a veneer of practice doesn't lead to freedom, it actually hinders it.
