Substack needs to change the payment model to allow readers to purchase content individually. The subscription model works well for established writers, especially those who already had a following. But we all have a limit on how many subscriptions we can afford. As a reader I would love to be able to pay a few pennies to read one article that catches my eye. I can’t afford to subscribe to all the writers that I like. I don’t know why we couldn’t just load twenty bucks onto the app and then spend that reading any article by any writer that we chose. I think that if Substack doesn’t do this someone else will and writers will move elsewhere.
