Live in an apartment and want to buy an EV? This one’s for you.

Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra Councils are doing some great work in the EV charging space for apartment owners, and I had the opportunity to check out their live testing site demonstrating four smart plugs: a mix of 10 amp and 15 amp power points with a QR code payment system.

I frequently get asked by apartment owners what options are available as they often get pushback from strata if they want to install a charger. Smart plugs are a low cost solution because they cost a third of the price of a level 2 charger and they should be easier to get approved because it’s user pays, the money goes directly to strata.

It’s great to see councils doing the hard work, testing these options, and trying to find solutions for people wanting to ditch their petrol cars. So reach out to your local council, they may well be able to help.
