That’s a long story and difficult to verbalise.
Essentially, I was brought up as a Protestant and veered between being nominal and more devout. I never really felt it was “deep enough”, lacked the mystical dimension and began exploring Buddhism. I practiced Tibetan Buddhism for about five years but increasingly felt that God “wouldn’t let me go”. I greatly respect the teachings of Buddha, they contain much that is true but never fully doubted the existence of God.
I was always attracted to Catholicism but having been brought up in Scotland and steeped in “anti Catholicism” couldn’t take the step to convert (pretty poor excuse looking back).
I then read myself into Eastern Orthodoxy and practiced for about five years but it’s hard in the UK and the culture isn’t “western”. It, like all religions has its issues. However I felt I was getting closer.
Eventually I took the plunge over 10 years ago and became Catholic which is what I should have done decades earlier. I am home.
This is a very potted, simplified outline and I don’t regret any part of my journey but I am convinced that the fullness of God’s Truth and grace brought me to where I am.
God bless you.
