Difficult Day on the Isle of Wight
Yesterday was one of those days you hope never comes.
Headon Warren, a precious piece of local acid heathland steeped in history and biodiversity, set alight. The site is loved by visitors and locals alike - a rare and precious place
As the fire up on the Warren still continues to be tackled, we've been reflecting on the past 48 hours, where we have worked alongside our landlords, the National Trust, to support the incredible fire service teams on the ground.
We're hugely grateful for the fire team’s professionalism, dedication and rapid response under extremely challenging circumstances. They were there when they were most needed and continue to protect the site as I type ❤️
It is over these past two days, that our local community spirit has shown just how strong it is. So many locals reached out with messages of support, offered help, or kept us all in their thoughts. A special thanks has to be saved for our neighbours and neighbouring farmers, whose support has reminded us just how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such kindness.
Through a little help from them, we were able to get all of our animals safely away from the affected area and they are doing well.
As the fire service manage to get the blaze under control, we’re left with such gratitude - for our friends, neighbours and, course, the fire service itself.
