I have moved to Japan for four years. I was hospitalised for two months in October-December 2025 due to serious pneumonia. During my stay in the hospital, I had a lot of hallucinations, including imagining some thugs breaking into my hospital ward and violently fought each other. I was thinking if the thugs were from Kabukchō, which was near the hospital. I was so scared that I didn’t sleep well. When I woke up the next morning, I realised that it might be some kind of nightmare or hallucination.
I had high fever for many days. At one point, I was in a coma but I didn’t notice it myself. My doctors and nurses They tried to wake me up when I had no response. Suddenly, I regained consciousness. I was wondering if I would just pass away but I was lucky. I survived. After having many rounds of X-rays, lumbar test, blood test, and lots of medicine, I finally recovered.
I will forget the horrible experience during the last two months of 2025. I have reflected a lot during my illness. I had a deep reflection of my life and all relationships. I have learned not to take anything for granted. We all can die any time. Now, I’m resuming some work and exploring new possibilities. I’m lucky that I have a small cafe while I’m still able to do some work to help others and continue to work on human rights.
Originally, I only wanted to write about this experience in Chinese, but I also want to share a bit in English.
