One thing I’d like to see more work on (and slotting this into a survey soon) is exploring what people mean when they say the Dem and Rep parties are “out of touch.” There is an assumption in DC that voters mean this in an ideological way (too far/left right) but that’s just the strategist’s fallacy talking (

Equally plausible that people mean this in an “elite party leaders don’t care about me” way. If you ask voters who Rs and Trump care about most, for example, people say the ultra-rich. For Dems, it’s “coastal elites” (whatever that means).
