The app for independent voices

Like Matt Yglesias, I’ve been using AI as a reading companion. It’s amazing. I read The Wealth of Nations recently and wouldn’t have understood half as much without an AI tutor. Two ChatGPT tips that have helped me:

  1. The project feature is great. I have a project called Literature/Books. Each book gets its own thread. This not only makes it easy to go back and remind yourself of something, but you don’t have to remind the chat what you’re reading. It makes typing in new questions speedy; you can just say “what does this sentence mean” and it will already know what you’re reading and what context you’ve already discussed together.

  2. Voice Mode is excellent. One of my favorite uses is to read before I need to drive somewhere, and then discuss out loud on the trip.

AI has made my reading more enjoyable which is crazy because it was already one of my favorite things to do.
