Lebanon and Israel have signed a deal that essentially cements Israeli occupation of large parts of Lebanon. The Israeli military is withdrawing from only two sites, in a move viewed as widely symbolic.

By tying their return of Lebanese territory to Hezbollah disarmament, Israel is saying it has no plans to leave.

What this means is that over a million displaced Lebanese people either can’t or won’t return to their homes.

This deal was endorsed by the EU’s Ursula von der Leyen, giving it Europe’a stamp of approval as well.
