It was an absolute honor to be invited as a panelist speaker at the Planning Institute of Australia’s Planning Priorities: Breakfast with the Minister event.
It was a privilege to share the trailer for my latest documentary exploring the realities of urban sprawl in Perth. The screening opened up vital conversations regarding the implications of sprawl on our environment and the overall liveability of our city-all in front of an audience with the true power to drive systemic change.
It was encouraging to hear the growing focus and momentum behind medium-density and transit-oriented development. However, while blame often falls squarely on “the market” and “NIMBYs,” I maintain that government must lead the charge by educating and inspiring a more sustainable urban future. We need to be on the same page about where we want to head as a city, especially as we approach 2050 and our population hits the 3.5 to 4 million mark.
I also loved sharing how trading my car keys for a bicycle has completely reshaped my daily commute! Being outdoors, soaking in the fresh air, utilizing our great cycling networks, and enjoying the social aspect have completely transformed how I experience Perth.
Many thanks to the linkedin.com/company/th… for organizing such an impactful event and fostering these critical conversations about our city’s future.
For those who missed the trailer or want to dive deeper into the conversation, we had a fantastic turnout at our screening at the WA State Library Theatre on Thursday, June 26th. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the film and share their vision for Perth’s future!lnkd.in/grZ76s9P • Thursday 3rd July - Special edition screening with PIA: lnkd.in/gR9NRiThPicslnkd.in/gR9NRiThPics: Maya Kuszewski
