This essay marks my 250th dispatch on the Talking Feds Substack. I have to say, it took me by surprise. When I resigned from the Los Angeles Times in protest of the paper’s currying favor with the Trump administration back in December of 2024, I couldn’t have known what this project would turn into—but here we are, and what a ride it’s been.
