The small town of Sighnaghi is particularly known for its picturesque character, its temperate and hot climate, and its original 18th Century fortress.
And yet, another historical depth lies beneath as the region claims to be the cradle of wine, with evidence dating back 8.000 years.
It is obvious that the region is well suited to it. The valleys are fertile and its terrain ideal. Crossing the region in a marshrutka offers the superb opportunity to observe the parade of these old tractors which, during the September grape harvest, transport staggering quantities of plump bunches of wine, as well as pomegranates and cucumbers.
A city that perfectly embodies how geography shapes culture.
