Today I joined Derrick Broze at the Conscious Resistance Network to discuss the #UN's rollout of a controversial all-encompassing digital ID for staff.

Our conversation revolves around the queries I have made into the program since I became aware of it in September 2025. The agencies involved have declined to adequately address fundamental questions about the need, privacy, security and liability for a highly risky digital initiative being justified largely on the basis of cost-cutting.

What has emerged so far is that the UN's attitudes to its internal digital ID rollout parallel documented cases of national #digitalID rollouts in countries such as Bangladesh and Jordan - where adequate informed consent is not established, nor are fundamental privacy and security concerns addressed.

So far it seems that the majority of UN staff are not even aware that the institution intends to create an all-encompassing digital ID that collects #biometric, health, travel, financial, education, employment and geolocation #data.

This ID will be used to manage staff data from first onboarding to retirement, including building access, software access, travel approvals, and even salary payments via #mobilewallets. This data is to be stored on individual staff private devices, with zero UN liability for any risks involved in that.

Despite multiple requests, no details of staff consultations, nor the legal frameworks enabling this scheme have been made public, despite the High-Level Committee on Management noting in it's 48th session that there were significant security and privacy concerns surrounding the digital ID.
