When our internal map tells us there should be a bridge, but reality presents us with a sheer drop, we do a very strange thing.
We stand at the edge and argue with the cliff. We complain that it "shouldn't" be there. We exhaust ourselves fighting reality.
What we rarely do is pause and ask: "Is my map out of date?"
