When we think about Prophet Yusuf (peace and blessings be upon him), it’s humbling to compare his trials to the small resentments we hold onto in daily life. He was betrayed by his own brothers, thrown into a well, sold as a slave, and imprisoned unjustly. Yet when he finally met those same brothers again, he chose compassion instead of revenge. He said, “No blame will there be upon you today. May Allah forgive you; and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.” — Surah Yusuf (12:92)
Of course, everyone’s story is different. People often say, “You don’t know my situation - so don’t judge.” And they are right. No one truly knows what another carries. But Prophet Yusuf’s story reminds us that whatever our pain, there is always a higher way to respond. His forgiveness wasn’t easy. It was the hardest choice, but it was also the one that brought him peace. Every slight grudge we hold on to becomes a burden that blocks our hearts, while letting go brings us closer to the strength that only Allah can give. Resentment chains us to the past, but forgiveness like Prophet Yusuf’s, sets us free long before justice ever arrives.
