Make money doing the work you believe in

Day 3 of camper van escapades and it was the ‘big’ drive. 500km from Bremen to Ghent, in preparation for the final little hop, skip and jump of 150km to Calais. I assumed it would be a boring day of driving so planned a riveting (probably not) post on ‘ablutions’ in tiny spaces.

But this whole camper van thing is just as Forrest Gump said “…life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you gonna get.” We made it to Ghent in record time as the roads were clear and we kept on going!

Out of the window went the little van site in a Ghent sport complex carpark that would have been a sauna when it was tipping over 30C at 2pm. Not booked, nothing lost.

And in came a little grassy 8 van site in a place called Gistel, sourrounded by fields. But it was full. We took a drive around the site… And got lucky - as we drove around the far side we saw a guy seemingly packing up and asked if he was leaving... yes in 20 mins! So we paid the €14 at the machine and grabbed the space.

In the next couple of hours we watched a dozen other vans come and go looking for a spot. While we watched (smirking) from our comfy chairs, enjoying a cold drink in the shade with 26C and a wonderful breeze. And Evie found her usual doggy TV next door!

So it’ll be a post about ablutions another day. You are free to breathe a sigh of relief!
