Today, Mayor Mamdani gave a public address for America’s 250th anniversary from City Hall where he sat behind George Washington’s desk, surrounded by recently-naturalized citizens.

He argued that the American story has always been one of contradiction, and traces the experiences of Indigenous people, enslaved Africans, immigrants and generations of Americans who arrived seeking freedom and opportunity.
