#NowWatching : Shows! 2025 was a great year for shows and while 2026 has so far been underwhelming there’s always something worth watching. My newsletter That 8 Point Star focuses on the underrated and lesser known but I do watch a few of the more “mainstream” series.
Here’s what I’m watching now and have enjoyed recently in the realm of the better known:
Steal (Prime): The new show I’m enjoying most atm. Suspenseful heist caper with great performances, twists aplenty, and high level production.
The Night Manager S2 (Prime) + Drops of God S2 (Apple): lumping these together as I’ve been disappointed by both after enjoying the first seasons. Weak scripts and the big dramatic moments don’t land, for me.
Families Like Ours (Canal+): Epic Danish drama from Thomas Vinterberg that envisions Denmark coming to an end as rising oceans engulf the country, leading to a refugee crisis and Europe in chaos. Swings big and mostly connects, if sometimes a tad soppy.
Film Club (BBC): Aimee Lou Wood stars and also co-wrote this bloody delightful show that pays loving homage to the films (especially rom coms) that the main characters are so besotted with, while creating it’s own charming little world. One of my fave watches of last few months.
Ponies (Peacock) - Only watched one ep and thought it was ok, I like my Eastern European spy shows to be more on the bleak and sparse side. I think that’s the point here however, with Hayley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke injecting plenty of fun into the usual espionage drabness. I’ll check back in on the Ponies.
