Dear Sen Adam Schiff and Rep Mike Thompson:
We Canadians are so sorry that Trump’s actions, his unjustified and no doubt illegal tariffs on Canadian goods in an attempt to destroy our economy, his ongoing threats to our sovereignty, and his offensive insults toward our former PM have hurt your wine industry.
We have actually been hurt even more by YOUR president’s indiscriminate actions.
Although we are a small population facing a mammoth bully, we are not swooning in surrender. The people of Canada, supported by our premiers are fighting back in the one way we can, by hitting Americans in the wallet.
We like your wines. We’re sorry your winemakers are hurting as a result of Trump’s actions too, but really, WE are not the cause of your pain. If you folks are not doing anything to stop Trump’s aggression towards us, YOU are a significant part of the problem YOU are facing. It’s actually pretty obvious if you face facts.
And truly, asking a victim to pull back on their self-defense because you’re getting blood splash on you from the aggressor’s blows is just a little callous and self-centred, don’t you think?
So, while YOUR president continues to beat on us, we choose not to make it easy for him. We are not travelling to the US; we are not buying American products whenever possible; and we are not stocking American liquor.
Let us know when YOU deal with your president, when YOU put him in his place and stop his bullying of us. We’ll be glad to talk then.
