In the Moment - here’s something from back in March 2020 - yes, the start of the pandemic, and we were stuck in Lima, Peru (after a week in Galapagos and another in the Sacred Valley) - missing the last outbound flight to the US, after the President of Peru announced he was closing the border. The hectic rush to get an early train out of Agua Caliente to Ollataytumbo to catch a shuttle to Cusco and a plane to Lima (the only international egress), we learned there were no seats. So it was a week in the airport hotel, inside the fence of an international airport servicing a city of over 11 million. Here is what we saw each morning - an abandoned terminal. Very eerie, very frustrating. (And not much help from our embassy.)

It makes a nice story, when embellished with bells and whistles of the day to get to Lima.

So here you go. substack.com/@patrikl
