Hi. My name is Jon. I’m a 36 year old from Oregon. I was born three months premature with cerebral palsy due to a lack of oxygen to my brain. I’m unable to stand and walk so I’ve been a wheelchair user my entire life. I lost both my parents back to back over the span of two months in 2019. If you’ve ever seen me or heard my name before, it’s most likely because I was denied a flight in 2023 and was told that my wheelchair was four inches too tall which meant I missed a Beyoncé concert; that story changed my life. Why am I telling you all this? I rely on Medicaid and Medicare to survive. Since my parents died, the only help I have comes from caregivers who help me get dressed, make sure I have food, and I am taken care of. They are only here four hours a day, six days a week. Otherwise, I spend the rest of my time isolated and alone. This is paid for by my health insurance. Under the legislation Trump and Republicans are trying to pass, I’m going to lose the help I need to navigate daily life. I want anyone reading this to look at my face and see the real impact these policies have; I am a living, breathing example of what will happen if this bill passes. Call your senators at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to vote no. My quality of life depends on it. Please share my story with everyone you can.
