My wife is a brilliant teacher. But recently she was unsure how to confront a student who turned in an essay clearly written by an AI engine.

She began by explaining to the student that the work was well above his current level of English grammar and vocabulary, and that she herself had got very similar results from ChatGPT. The student admitted what he’d done (with excuses about “changing some things”). Then my wife felt as though the Spirit of God took over, and she said to him:

“You are better than this. There’s no one else like you. You are uniquely valuable. The world needs to hear what only you can give. Your school, your fellow students, even your nation, don’t need the gleanings of a robot; they need your unique thoughts and ideas. Give them you.”

She rebuked him and affirmed his dignity in the same breath. And gave one of the truest advocacies for human writing I’ve ever heard.
