AI Is Laundering Open-Source Licenses.
Two-thirds of audited codebases now contain open-source license conflicts. That's up from 56% last year — the largest single-year jump in the history of the OSSRA report.
One codebase had 2,675 distinct license conflicts.
Part of what's driving this is AI code generation. When an AI assistant produces code derived from GPL or other copyleft sources, it often strips the license information. This is being called "license laundering."
46% of organizations don’t evaluate AI-generated code for IP and licensing risks, and those that do struggle to detect possible issues.
