Incapacity has impacted and afflicted me for decades. Years of having M.E and other chronic illnesses has stopped me from normal functioning and activity.
Over time, as I’ve grown to accept and embrace my limitations, I’ve learnt there are blessings to be found in a slowed down, tortoise or snail’s pace life that has time for rest and sacred noticing.
A slowed down life
we’re not all nimble and quick
some us are weak and sick
we’re not all fit and strong
some of us just crawl along
we’re not all able to be employed
when our health has been destroyed
society seems to expect
only the active get respect
they’re seen as the doers and workers
we’re seen as the losers and shirkers
yet in the eyes of Jesus
we’re valued and precious
no less worthy in his sight
we’re not the left behind
he carries our infirmities
he gives us hope and peace
we can hold our heads up high
as his dearly beloved child
we are called to rest in his grace
slowed to see the beauty of each day
