They don’t need a “Handmaid’s Tale” dress code to make women more dependent. They just need to make contraception harder to get, abortion nearly impossible, childcare unaffordable, education inaccessible, nursing and teaching degrees too expensive, federal protections against discrimination meaningless, and public institutions that employ women too weak to defend them.
