Snapshots of the annual average power prices in Europe in 2018 and in 2024 (up to today). What is striking is that countries used to have relatively similar prices but it has changed recently:
- In 2018, almost all countries were between around 40 and 60 €/MWh (except Ireland and Sicily).
- In 2024, the average price varies from 25 to more than 100 €/MWh, with low prices located in the Nordics and high prices in Italy and Eastern Europe.
This has some important consequences in terms of best location to reindustrialize / increase electric demand. There are several explanations for such high differences, something that I will try to show in a future post to be published in the coming weeks.
(PS: the color scales are different).
