Minnesota Governor Tim Walz delivered a rare primetime address Wednesday night as tensions escalated in Minneapolis over federal ICE enforcement — urging people to protest peacefully and “stand up for their rights.”

His speech came as protests continued after a federal agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good and a second ICE-related shooting this week. Walz called for de-escalation and accountability while defending Minnesotans’ right to document ICE activity.

"Donald Trump wants this chaos. He wants confusion. And yes, he wants more violence on our streets. We cannot give him what he wants,” Governor Walz said. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy troops to quell protests against the federal officers sent to Minneapolis to enforce his administration's massive immigration crackdown.
